Services & Specialties
The Pearson Peacekeeping Centre Library has a collection of over
7,000 volumes. The subject focus covers a wide range of issues related
to international peace operations, in both their contemporary and
historical context. Collection materials include books, a large
selection of periodicals, audio/visual material, maps, government
documents, reference, archival and digital materials. The Library
also has access to on-line resources and databases that enable comprehensive
electronic searches.
Our collection is tailored to meet the information needs of the
Centre’s clientele. The Library consults the Centre regularly
when developing the acquisition plan to ensure that holdings are
relevant to the interests of those using our services, and to emerging
issues in the field. Collection materials include, but are not limited
to the following subjects:
- Publications related to specific conflicts and peace operations
- International relations
- Military peacekeeping operations
- Conflict prevention
- Human rights and international humanitarian law
- Refugees and Internally Displaced Persons
- Mediation, negotiation and conflict resolution;
- Gender issues in peace operations
- Humanitarian assistance
- Peacebuilding
- Human development and security
- Organizations involved in peace operations
The Library also has a small but growing collection of materials
that supports our counterpart programme, Peaceful
Schools International, which addresses issues related to resolution
of violence in schools.
“Thank you for generously facilitating my use of the
library at the Pearson Peacekeeping Centre where I spent several
days in August doing research on Housing /Shelter. As a specialized
library, your standard library collection on housing-related material
was tremendously useful in understanding housing in a global perspective.
I found the collection to be outstanding, and the library staff
went out of their way to provide the best possible assistance”.
