The field of peace operations is constantly changing. To keep pace,
the Pearson Peacekeeping Centre sponsors a programme of applied
research. Activities include:
- Secondary research on emerging peace operations issues;
- Working with research networks in areas where the Pearson Peacekeeping
Centre can make a distinctive contribution through our network
of Partners and External Faculty;
- Round Tables, usually with published proceedings or working
papers;
- A Visiting Research Fellows Programme that allows academics
and practitioners to conduct research using the Centre's facilities.
Knowledge generated through research activities supports the development
of PPC programmes, ensuring they are up to date with changes in
the field. Recent themes have included:
- Security Sector Reform;
- Good Governance and Transitional Administrations;
- The Role of Special Representatives to the Secretary General;
- The Role of the Private Sector in Peace Operations; and
- Geographic case studies.
Our Research Programme also creates opportunities for dialogue
between the principal stakeholders of peace operations: organizations
working in the field, academic institutions, government, official
bodies such as the United Nations and war-affected local populations.
