Description
The Pearson Peacekeeping Centre has internship opportunities at
our campuses in Cornwallis and Montréal. The programme is
intended for young professionals considering a career in some aspect
of peace operations or international relations.
PPC Interns gain professional experience in a stimulating learning
environment. They are directly involved with the Centre’s
programmes, usually supporting the development and delivery of courses
and other activities. Interns perform entry-level professional tasks,
and assignments are usually based on ability. They are expected
to show a high level of initiative and responsibility. Their work
brings Interns in contact with PPC staff and External Faculty, subject
matter experts and course participants, all from different professions
and nationalities.
Because of the unique attributes of the Internship Programme at
the PPC, many previous interns have credited the experience to their
career success. Interns at PPC also have a lot of fun working and
socializing with the other like-minded individuals from around the
world.
In turn, the Centre benefits greatly from the knowledge, abilities
and energy that Interns bring. The work is of value to the PPC,
and directly contributes to our overall programme offering. We encourage
interns to remain involved with the Centre after completing the
Internship Programme, and some have come back to join us as staff
or External Faculty, or are involved in other kinds of PPC activities.
Application Process The Pearson Peacekeeping Centre
offers up to 30 internships a year. The duration of a position is
usually four months, with the possibility of extension based on
the needs of the programme and the interest of the intern. The programme
operates throughout the year, with sessions usually beginning in
January, May/June and August/September. The deadline for applications
is three months before the start of a new session.
For interns working in Cornwallis, room and board is provided on
campus, and each intern receives a modest monthly stipend. For Montréal
interns, the Centre provides a stipend to help offset the higher
costs attributable to living expenses.
To be considered for a position within the Internship Programme,
candidates are required to submit their resume (curriculum vitae),
a cover letter, a sample of their written work (maximum of 10 pages,
in English or French) and a completed application form. Candidates
usually have:
- Completed a Bachelors Degree or equivalent;
- A demonstrated interest in themes related to peace operations;
- Relevant work experience; and
- A willingness to collaborate with others in an international
environment.
Once accepted, interns are responsible to acquire medical insurance
and provide the details of that coverage on arrival at the PPC.
International interns may be required to obtain a Canadian visa,
depending on their country of origin. For further information, contact
the Internship Coordinator at [email protected]
