The Pearson Peacekeeping Centre is a gathering point for education,
training and research on all aspects of peace operations.
Our main activity is training - providing practical knowledge
and skills to individuals and organizations involved in peace operations.
We worked with over 6000 people from Canada and 142 other countries
between 1995 and 2002. Thousands of others have participated in
PPC peace operations exercises using our Orion System.
The Pearson Peacekeeping Centre has delivered special iterations
of our courses in almost thirty countries, usually on request from
the Department of National Defence (DND), the Department of Foreign
Affairs and International Trade (DFAIT) and other organizations.
In 2001/02 alone, we worked in Colombia, Korea, the United States,
Albania, Jordan, Mali, Costa Rica, Romania, the Ukraine, Croatia,
Ivory Coast, Senegal, Sudan, Sweden, Benin and Argentina.
Our learning services include:
- Onsite courses delivered at the
PPC’s two campuses in Cornwallis,
Nova Scotia and Montréal,
Quebec.
- Off-site courses, seminars and activities, delivered around
the world by request through the Advancement group [[email protected]].
- Peace operations exercises and simulations,
using the PPC’s Orion Peace Operations Training System.
- Library Services, a special
peace operations collection
- Round Tables, conferences and
seminars, on emerging peace operations issues.
- Research on emerging issues that
shape the future of peace operations. Findings support the development
of our learning services, as well as public and policy discussion.
- Capacity building initiatives
designed to enhance the ability of other education and training
institutions to develop and deliver their programmes.
- Support to missions in
the field through delivery of education and training
services to peace operation mission on-site.
- An Internship programme that
provides opportunity to young professionals beginning a career
in related fields.
- Publications on all aspects
of peace operations.
All of the PPC’s learning services enhance the effectiveness
of individuals and organizations in a field environment. Many former
participants, interns and faculty now hold key positions in national
and international organizations that are involved in peace operations.
