PPC Signs MOU with Peacekeeping Centre in Chile
The Pearson Peacekeeping Centre (PPC) has signed a Memorandum of
Understanding (MOU) with the Chilean Joint Centre for Peace Operations
(Centro Conjunto para Operaciones de Paz de Chile (CECOPAC). The
MOU commits both centres to collaborate in the development and delivery

Governor General Visits PPC
Her Excellency the Right Honourable Adrienne Clarkson, Governor
General of Canada and His Excellency John Ralston Saul visited the
Pearson Peacekeeping Centre (PPC) on October 22, 2002. More

PPC Supports Exercise JOINT WOLF
In the latter half of November, Cornwallis Park, Nova Scotia was
the venue for the Canadian Forces Exercise JOINT WOLF. The advance
party of a Joint Task Force Headquarters (JTF HQ) from the Joint
Operations Group (JOG) in Kingston, Ontario along with its attached
elements, began arriving at the PPC, November 12, 2002. More

The Long Road Home - DDR in Post-Conflict Environments
Registration is now open for The Hard Road Home; Disarmament,
Demobilization and Reintegration (C-12) from 17-28 February
2003 at the Cornwallis Campus. This course covers the essential
issues of the DDR processes, which are critical to complex peace
operations. View

Course Covers Civil-Military Cooperation
A recent course delivered by the Pearson Peacekeeping Centre helped
48 participants from 17 countries gain a greater understanding of
the civil-military relationships involved in peace operations around

Canada supports good governance and security in francophone countries
in Africa
The Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) announced
funding for $1.3 million over three years to the Pearson Peacekeeping
Centre to train civil observers working in post-conflict situation.
This builds on the Peacekeeping and Security Capacity Building Project
($4.5 million over three years) that was launched at the 1999 Francophonie
Summit in Moncton.

PPC Delivers Training At Canadian Land Forces Command and Staff
College
The Pearson Peacekeeping Centre (PPC) delivered a two-day peacekeeping
training module to the Canadian Land Forces Command and Staff College
(CLFCSC) transition course in Kingston on November 12 - 14,
2002. The CLFCSC trains junior officers to function as brigade HQ
staff in any operation, including peacekeeping. The PPC module on
peace operations was designed to ensure that officers can work more
effectively in the field, particularly in their relationships with
civilian and police

Ozman Named New Chair, Board of Directors
Kenneth Ozmon, O.C., Ph.D., has been named Chair of the Board of
Directors of the Pearson Peacekeeping Centre. Dr. Ozmon, who previously
served as Vice-Chair, was elected to the position of Chair at its
November 19, 2002, board meeting. Read the complete

Disarmament and Demobilization Course Success in Romania
The Pearson Peacekeeping Centre conducted their key course in
disarmament, demobilization, and reintegration (DDR) in Romania
in
September 2002. The course was delivered at the request of the Department
of National Defence (DND) as part of Canada's cooperation with countries

PPC Introduces New Foundation Course
Peace Operations must be staffed by well trained professionals.
In the Service of Peace: Civilian Core Competencies is
a new Pearson Peacekeeping Centre Foundation Course. The course
will ensure that participants with little or no previous field experience
have the knowledge and skill they need to be effective in the field.
The PPC also has versions of the Foundation Course for military
and police candidates. More

PPC Joins Consultation on Civilian Expert Deployment
Canada's civilian contribution to peace operations is growing.
The
Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade hosted a
consultation on Expert Deployment to identify best practices for
deploying civilians into hazardous situations. The PPC participated
in the consultation, and provided secretarial support. More
