Ozman Named New Chair, Board of Directors
Kenneth Ozmon, O.C., Ph.D., has been named Chair of the Board of
Directors of the Pearson Peacekeeping Centre. Dr. Ozmon, who previously
served as Vice-Chair, was elected to the position of Chair at its
November 19, 2002, board meeting.
Dr. Ozmon, President Emeritus of Saint Mary's University, Halifax,
was named to the position following the resignation of The Honourable
Jean Jacques Blais who held the chairmanship since the Centre's
establishment by the Government of Canada in 1994.
After eight years of dedicated service to the PPC, Mr. Blais stepped
down from the position of PPC Chair to head a mission to Afghanistan.
He will act in an advisory capacity to the Transitional Authority
of Afghanistan as it prepares for the elections scheduled for June
2004. His assignment is with the International Foundation of Electoral
Systems, which has been engaged by Elections Canada to complement
its international expertise.
Mr. Blais will continue his association with the PPC as Chair Emeritus.
Gisèle Côté-Harper, O.C., Q.C., Professor of
Law at Laval University, Quebec City, replaces Dr. Ozmon as Vice-Chair.
