Pearson Peacekeeping Centre Supports Exercise JOINT WOLF
In the latter half of November, Cornwallis Park, Nova Scotia was
the venue for the Canadian Forces Exercise JOINT WOLF. The advance
party of a Joint Task Force Headquarters (JTF HQ) from the Joint
Operations Group (JOG) in Kingston, Ontario along with its attached
elements, began arriving at the PPC, November 12. The exercise had
several objectives including the testing of deployment capability
and functionality and the interoperability of a JTF HQ. Also examined
through exercise play, was the interoperability and connectivity
between the deployed headquarters and provincial and federal government
departments.
While the exercise development and delivery were responsibilities
of the JOG, the PPC offered the infrastructure and location required
by the general scenario. This type of arrangement was facilitated
by an existing relationship between the two agencies that had been
established under similar circumstances in 2000. Support for Exercise
JOINT WOLF consisted primarily of accommodations and meals, the
coordination of other services within Cornwallis Park and the provision
of a small number of role players. With the arrival of the main
body, the number of exercise participants peaked at approximately
280 personnel.
PPC staff rose to the challenge admirably, reinforcing the Centre’s
reputation for service, friendliness and hospitality. Statistics
from the kitchen such as the baking of almost eight thousand cookies,
the preparation of ten thousand meals and the brewing of 200 gallons
of coffee all attest to the effort put forward from that quarter.
Moreover, these numbers illustrate the PPC’s capability to
host and support activities of this nature. Additional information
on the PPC’s full range of training, exercise and conference
facilities can be found in the “About
Us” section.
