Call for Papers on Peace Operations and the Environment - Now Open
Volume 12, Issue 1
The environment is an issue that can no longer be neglected. Despite this knowledge, international institutions and States still respond in silos instead of understanding the relationship and interconnections among cross-cutting issues. Environmental degradation and competition for resources has a real impact on the success or failure of peace operations and post-conflict peacebuilding efforts. Conversely, peace operations are not neutral in their effects and managing change can also have intended and unintended impacts on the environment. Consequently, it is imperative that the environment be factored into the overall response to conflict.
Volume 12 of The Pearson Papers aims to further the understanding of the way in which environmental issues affect the conduct of peace operations and vice-versa. Such understanding, in turn, will help in the planning of future missions and of post-conflict peacebuilding efforts.
