The Pearson Peacekeeping Centre (PPC) aims to make peace operations more effective through research, training, education and capacity building. As conflicts around the world are increasing in intensity, complexity and duration, the need for well trained peace operations personnel is immense.
We tackle this mission at a time when public debate on Canada’s role in peace operations has reached an extraordinary level. Contemporary peace operations have become increasingly complex: personnel are deployed into both inter-state and intra-state conflicts and operations are conducted in every phase of conflict – from prevention to post-war construction. New challenges are constantly emerging and closer cooperation among civilian organizations, military and police is needed now more than ever.
The PPC exemplifies Canada’s leadership and commitment to global peace and security. We make a significant contribution to global peace and advance Canada’s international obligations through our programs and support to civilian groups, military and police around the world.
