Understanding Conflict

Conflict is a dynamic and constantly evolving force, with lots of factors intersecting and influencing one another, including: the need for resources such as water, food and shelter as well as local and international politics, employment, geographic boundaries, migration, history, economics, disease, education and cultural differences.

The Pearson Peacekeeping Centre (PPC) is primarily concerned with instances of negative conflict and helps countries dealing with war to cease conflicts and plant the seed for future prevention. Our role is to provide training – in many forms – to people working in conflict zones, so that they will be prepared for the challenges of establishing and maintaining peace.

The local population in an area of conflict has to deal with the consequences long after the fighting has stopped. The PPC also helps fragile populations re-establish through our capacity building efforts after the conflict has ceased.
