At the heart of the Pearson Peacekeeping Centre’s (PPC) training approach is activity-based learning – a dynamic teaching method built on respect for the existing experience, skills and knowledge of participants. PPC’s courses and learning events are developed in collaboration with our community of outside experts – specialists with recent hands-on experience, who work closely with our in-house team of course designers.
Learners are presented with one or more problems, which they must solve using their own experience, the expertise of their contemporaries and the knowledge of the instructors. No two people are exactly alike, and each participant approaches problems with a different mix of culture and customs, professional and personal experience, skills, abilities, training and personality. These differences amount to an exceptionally rich learning environment.
The PPC has over 200 facilitators, a group composed of practicing and retired academics, senior police officers, diplomats and high-ranking military personnel. Together, they have extensive peace operations experience on five continents. Rather than offer the ‘right’ answer, our team of facilitators encourages and guides participants to develop their own conclusions.
At the PPC, we have the unique ability to bring people with diverse experience and expertise together in a neutral space for a learning experience that is literally unrivaled in the world today.
