The Pearson Peacekeeping Centre has just signed a contract with the 1st German-Netherlands Corps for the design, development and delivery of Exercise Leopard Sword, a Peace Support Operations command post exercise that will take place in Baumholder, Germany in November 2008.
The aim of the exercise is to practice the 1st German Netherlands Corps in the application of NATO doctrine and procedures in a UN-mandated Peace Support Operation. The scenario is situated in the Republic of Trutta, the newest component of the PPC Salmo Peace Operations Training Scenario which depicts situations likely to be found in Asia and Northern Africa.
The exercise comprises an academic phase where participants will gain an enhanced understanding of peace support operations including: the legal framework; stabilization operations; law and order operations; humanitarian operations and development operations.
This is followed by a crisis response planning phase where the headquarters plans for the upcoming operation in Trutta.
Finally, in November 2008, the full Headquarters and supporting staff (approximately 1000 all ranks) will deploy to Baumholder for a two week period and conduct the Command post exercise in the fictitious Republic of Trutta.
