La violence sexuelle n’est pas une réalité propre à la RDC. On retrouve bien entendu des cas de violences aux quatre coins du monde. Ce qui différencie cette violence de celle qu’on retrouve lors de conflits armés et plus précisément en RDC, est l’empreinte permanente qu’elle laisse non seulement sur les victimes, mais sur des communautés entières. Elle a pour but de détruire, d’humilier les familles et de disséminer les populations.

Democratic Republic of the Congo:Day Four – From Kinshasa to Goma
From the air, you begin to understand the vastness of this country and the resulting challenges. It is a little less than 2,000 kilometres from Kinshasa to Goma – comparable to the distance between London and the southern tip of Italy, or Ottawa and Winnipeg. The luscious green rainforest provides an impressive background to the Congo River, carefully carved into the landscape.

Democratic Republic of the Congo: Day Four – Our Flight to Goma
The alarm clock, rather the alarm phone, rings and I step out on the balcony of my room at the Grand Hotel in Kinshasa. As the rain that caught us on our way to the Uruguayan ‘casa naval’ last night continued, the temperature dropped. Beyond the immediate vicinity of the hotel, there are few lights – the city is asleep, for now.
